Julio Bocca

He is one of the greatest exponents of Argentine ballet and the world. He was born on March 6, 1967 in Buenos Aires. He began dancing at the age of four under the tutelage of her mother, Nancy. First he learned to dance, then to read and write. In 1974 he entered the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón, where he studied with Gloria Kazda, José Parés and Ninel Jultyeva and later with Maggy Black, Lidia Segni and Wilhelm Burmann.

In 1982 he began his professional career as First Dancer of the Teresa Carreño Foundation of Venezuela and at the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1985 he participated in the 5th Moscow International Competition. He won the Gold Medal in his category. In 1986 he was First Dancer of the American Ballet Theatre, with which he made extensive tours of the most important cities in the United States, Europe and Asia.

He danced with Natalia Makarova and Fracci in the companies of the Royal Ballet of London, the Bolshoi of Moscow, the Kirov of Leningrad, Scala of Milan, the Zarzuela of Madrid, the Royal Danish Ballet of Denmark, the Stuttgart Ballet of Germany, the Oslo Opera Ballet and the Paris Opera Ballet.

In 1990 he received the "Gino Tanni Award" and is recognized by the Ibero-American Dance Association as the "Best International Star Dancer of Classical Dance". At only twenty-three he created the Ballet Argentino in the early 1990s. In 1992, he toured Europe with the Contemporary Ballet of the General San Martín Theatre and Eleonora Cassano. At the end of 1993 he participated in the Opening Gala at the Opera House in Helsinsky, Finland. In 1994 he began his tour in the United States with Eleonora Cassano and the Argentine Ballet. The great Argentine artist shone in the most demanding rooms in the world, with brilliant performances in the theaters of the cities of New York, Milan, London, Madrid and Moscow, and managed to popularize this art throughout his country. For this, the artist created the Julio Bocca Foundation, a recognized institution that trains artists with excellence and passion.

In Argentina he received the following awards: María Ruanova Award "Primus Inter Pares" (1986), "Caballero de la Orden de San Martín de Tours" (1987) and "Martín Fierro" for the best performance in Musical Show for television (1991).

In 1997 he opened his dance studio, permanent headquarters of his company "Ballet Argentino". In March 2007 his biography, "Julio Bocca, la vida en danza", was published in Argentina, the same year as his farewell from the stage. Precisely on the occasion of his retirement, a large free show was organized at the Obelisk in the city of Buenos, where more than 200,000 people attended. It was unforgettable.

On March 23, 2010, the President of Uruguay, José Mujica appointed him as Director of the Dance Corps of the SODRE, Uruguayan state organization.

Where he went, he left his mark. He won hundreds of awards and starred in countless shows.
